About Shuttle Tex

Shuttletex manufacture bespoke high temperature insulation tapes woven only on shuttle looms for the specialist weave construction they produce. Shuttle loom weaving is a traditional method that utilizes a uniform woven selvedge on both sides of the tape,(i.e the tape has no catch thread).

Shuttletex ProductsModern high speed needle looms weave a construction that requires a catch-thread down one selvedge. The catch thread has to be inconspicuous so it will not upset the symmetry of the tape or the mechanical weaving process itself. Typically therefore, a yarn much finer than the warp and weft is used creating a potential point of weakness especially if subjected to abrasion and high temperatures.

The uniform construction of shuttle woven fabrics have no such ‘alien’ catch thread thus eliminating this chance of failure.

For most industrial applications tapes with catch threads do not pose a problem. Shuttletex only aim to work with those industries where the integrity of the tape is of paramount importance and shuttle weave construction a necessity. Such requirements may be found in aerospace, defense, automotive and chemical industries.

We use a wide range of high temperature resistant insulating yarns including E-Glass, S-2 Glass, Silica, Quartz, 3M Nextel® and Continuous Alumina Fibre.
