Silica Needle Mat
- Resistant to temperatures up to 1050° C
- Low Thermal Conductivity
- Will not stretch or shrink
- High strength-to-weight ratio
- Highly resistant to molten metals
- High dialectric strength / low constants
- Resistant to most chemicals
- Excellent flexibility
Silica needle mats are specially carded to produce a high volume batt. This is then mechanically needled to bond the fibres which results in a dimensionally stable mat or felt, possessing excellent thermal and acoustic insulating properties without any chemical binder.
The needled effect bonds and secures the individual fibres thus ensuring no fibre loss via the perforated tubes. Silica fibres have a minimal amount of surface dressing that is required to assist in processing, this is usually organic i.e. starch and will disappear at temperatures above 200°C.
Silica needle mats are suitable for continuous use at temperatures up to 1050°C. Characteristics are a low coefficient of thermal conduction, low heat storage and absolute incombustibility. Silica needle mat is friendly to the skin, not hazardous to health and has excellent resistance to chemicals.
